FAQs

What is the role of a Hockey Agent/Advisor?

At Apollo Athletics, the role of a hockey Agent/Advisor is similar to that of a general contractor. Rather than building a home, we are offering resources to help put the pieces in place to maximize the player's potential in order to advance their hockey career. Agents/Advisors serve as a single point of contact for the athlete and their family to help navigate the often-overwhelming and ever changing hockey world. Agents/Advisors assist with: placing athletes with the proper strength training and skills coaches, CHL and NHL draft preparation, athlete brand development, traditional and social media training, and lending an ear to listen. When the time comes, agents act on the player's behalf to negotiate the best contract possible and maximize earnings for the athlete.

What is the right age to start working with a Hockey Agent/Advisor?

In the early stages of an athlete's career, our Agents/Advisors primarily work with the athlete's parents to listen and provide advice when required. We feel it is important to let young athletes enjoy the minor hockey experience. The game of hockey should be a fantastic experience to learn life lessons amongst your peers. If it accelerates into a potential professional career, an agent/advisor can streamline the experience during career path election (NCAA vs CHL) or a draft.

How does one become an Apollo Client?

As we pride ourselves on operating as a boutique agency, we are selective on the players and families we work with to ensure  we share a cohesive outlook with realistic expectations for the player's career. Our goal is a long-term relationship that lasts throughout the player's career.‍‍

What separates Apollo from other Agencies?

Apollo is different from traditional agencies and we are proud of this. Today’s modern athletes need modern agents/advisors. Athletes today are much more in tune with their personal brand, social media presence, and social issue awareness. They hold themselves and others to high standards and seek relationships with people who can relate to them and provide instant feedback for both their on-ice play as well as their off ice lives. By proactively anticipating the ever changing needs of the modern athlete, Apollo brings a new fresh approach to athlete management. We maintain a small client list so that Apollo can provide each athlete with the level of service and attention to accelerate their career. We place an emphasis on mental health recognizing the need for a strong support system.

Bayne Pettinger, the founder of Apollo, was Manager, Hockey Operations with Hockey Canada for 10 years before becoming an Agent so his knowledge of the ins and outs of the Program of Excellence with Hockey Canada serves as an advantage to his clients.

Do you need to be a professional hockey player to work with Apollo?

No, Although we work with existing professional hockey players, we also work with players  and their families at all stages of their careers.

What does Apollo charge for their services?

We charge a small annual fee to our advisory (non-professional) clients for the work and attention provided to guide their hockey careers as they get off the ground. When our athletes reach the professional level, we take a percentage of their professional contract earnings with a tiered modern method. Please contact us for a personalized quote for advisory services.
